Our Diary

All weddings are special, but some weddings are more memorable than others. When we’re designing your dream day, we’re not only thinking about how it will photograph, we’re dreaming up ways to make sure it’s an unforgettable experience for you and your guests!  Of course, it’s all in the details and we snagged 7 of our favorite ways to make your reception a party that just won’t quit!

1. Cornhole! Everyone can play, and you can even get a few games going for some friendly competition. Double score since you can incorporate this into your wedding design!
2. Experiential events are all the rage – and regardless of your budget, you can get creative with the word “bar”. We’ve seen everything from cheese + wine pairing bars, honeycomb bars, to unique Olive Oil + Vinegar bars like this one!
3. Think outside the box! We love using unique vessels and going beyond for furniture-like this sweetheart table, sans linens. It was perfect for the whimsical rustic wedding we designed to go with it!
4. If you’re looking for something different than the traditional white guest book, you’re in luck! We love going the extra mile and bringing things like custom globes to the wedding that your guests can sign. Much more fun to display once you get home, don’t you think?
5. Have your cake and all your favorite desserts too! On your wedding day, it’s all about decadence and we love this idea so much-you can have a pretty cake to cut, and share your favorite delights with your guests. What perfect fuel for a dance party that will go all night!
6. What’s better than assigned seatings at a wedding? Seating charts that top the creativity charts! This is a perfect example of fashion meeting function in the dreamiest ways. Talk about a statement!
7. Give your guests an extra chance to leave you a bit of advice that you’ll take with you into your new life together. Another great place to incorporate your wedding style while adding an element of fun for your attendees. Bonus: These are SO fun to read together when you wake up the day after your wedding!

The first day of summer is tomorrow and while everyone loves a wedding filled with soft neutrals and shades of white, we’re thinking summer is a great excuse for play with color!

To kick off the season, we’re going to revisit some of our past events that incorporated some fearless  use of color:

Whether you’re #sweatingforthewedding or you’re all about that #sugardetox (or BOTH!) we know how important your wedding day glow is! While we’re busy working to design your perfect day, we hope you’re enjoying all the fun of being a bride, and don’t forget to take some time to take care of you!

Lauren from our team is here to share one of her favorite smoothie recipes-which everyone can benefit from since it’s warming up outside, and a green smoothie doubles as refreshing and light!

All Day Glow Green Smoothie from Oh She Glows

via Oh She Glows

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (250 mL) coconut water

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) mango juice (I love Happy Planet Organic Mango juice)

  • 2 large (400 g total) Granny Smith apples, cored and roughly chopped

  • 2 cups (70 g) packed red leaf lettuce or romaine

  • 2/3 cup (18 g) loosely packed fresh parsley leaves

  • 1/3 cup (15 g) packed fresh cilantro leaves*

  • 1/2 cup (70 g) frozen mango chunks

  • 1/4 cup (50 g) packed avocado

  • 4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice, or to taste

  • 2 small, pinky-sized pieces (12 g total) peeled fresh turmeric**

  • 5 to 6 large ice cubes, or as needed

Directions:

  1. Add the coconut water and mango juice into a (64-ounce) high-speed blender. (If your blender is on the small side, you may want to make a half-batch.)

  2. Now add the rest of the ingredients. Blend on high until super smooth. If you have a Vitamix, use the tamper stick to get things moving. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired. If it’s too tart, feel free to add a bit of liquid sweetener.

  3. Serve and enjoy! Place any leftovers into an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 24 hours. I love to enjoy half in the morning, and the other half in the afternoon.

Tips:

  • This is a large batch so feel free to cut the recipe in half your first time.

  • * The cilantro flavour in this smoothie is quite pronounced. If you aren’t a cilantro fan, feel free to swap it with more romaine or fresh mint (start with 1/4 cup of mint).

  • ** Fresh turmeric root is becoming more and more common in grocery stores these days; keep your eyes peeled for it in the produce section. It can also be found on Amazon, and in select health food stores and Indian and Asian grocery stores. Look for firm turmeric that is unblemished.
